A Couple Of Club Updates From Pete White

Price Increases

The club has been notified by the ACU that insurance costs per rider have risen with immediate effect; this affects all clubs. Thankfully all other ACU costs remain the same for the coming year (and the owners of the land at Headley continue to support the club generously) and so we can keep event price increases to a minimum. The cost for entry into a Basingstoke MCC trial will be £17 per solo rider, and £23 for sidecars. Club membership fees will remain unchanged.

Awards

A winners award is given by the club at every event for the ‘A’ route, and depending on participant numbers awards may also be given for other classes. End-of-year awards are given for each class and are presented at the awards evening. Clearly the trophies given for the awards have to be funded from the revenue generated by trials entry fees; hence the increased ACU insurance fees cannot be absorbed by the club

An Update On The Next Trial From Pete White

"With the help of Malcom, Andy Steph, Glen, John, Bordon Boys, Mike, Graham, Mark, Peter and son and myself, we were all able to get the majority of the undergrowth cleared at Headley on the road side bank. We are going to be going back on Saturday 14th August, and we will also be running a trial on 22nd August even if the it is only on the road side bank. We will be there on the 21st August to clear some more undergrowth and also mark the sections out. All help on these dates will make it light work."

A Post Lockdown Update From Pete White

"As we are coming out of lockdown, I have been over to Headley to check out the way that the undergrowth has taken hold, because it is now 16 months since we were last there. And in places it is high and I was not able to get from the small pit into the big pit. I have checked with both land owners and everything is okay to still use the venue for our events. One thing is that we will not be able to use the big pit for parking as new developments are happening with the site and the gap in the bum has to be filled in so we are going to have to park in the small pit. I have checked with John, Malcolm and Andy, and told them what is happening. John has just had an operation on his hand, and he is a bit second hand like me. But Andy won't come up and he won't let Malcolm come to help clear out unless we get more help. and it looks like that is now at future dates. What we can say is that we will be there for 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon from 13:00. We (John, Malcolm and myself) are all in our mid 70's and it is getting harder for us. So, if you want to ride at Headley again, this is as it is going to be. No help = no trial. And we need to know numbers on who are willing to help and also be able to bring tools for cutting out."

April Trial Update

Unfortunately, our April trial has been cancelled due to Government guidelines, we apologise for this and will keep you all updated in regards to future events.

Events And 2021 Membership Update

Hi all, unfortunately we are cancelling all events until April due to the announced national lockdown. We will review the situation closer to that time.

Events And 2021 Membership Update

Hi all, unfortunately we have had to cancel our New Years Day trial due to uncertainty about the Government's Tier System. We have had a rise in cases in Berkshire so we have decided to postpone running events until we have a clearer idea.

However, we have extended everyone's membership for another year, free of charge, due to the lack of events this year due to Covid-19.

Covid-19 Situation Update

Hi all, we regret to bring you the news that we have decided to cancel all events until the end of the year. We will re-assess the situation in December and decide whether we can restart in January 2021.

Yours, Pete White

Club Formation History

Recently, we had an email from David Matthews, who's uncle lived in the Basingstoke area in the 1920's and rode motorcycles. Below is some of the information about the early days of the club that he has provided us:

"I came across a silver trophy cup I’d stored away, god knows when, that had belonged to my Uncle Albert Fleming, it had the inscription - Presented to the Basingstoke Motor Cycle Club by Com’dr H Simmonds RN August 6th 1923. The cup was presented to my Uncle Albert Fleming who road raced motor cycles during that period. He died many years ago. Again many years later and as a keen motor cyclist myself his daughter, my cousin, gave me the cup from a cabinet full of cups, trophies and medals he won during the above period in memory of him. Reference to the BMCC made me look it up on line which stated the Club had been formed in 1927!"

If anyone else has any information about the club and it's history they would like to share, send it across to us via info@basingstokemcc.co.uk

Update From The Committee

Hi to all you bored trials riders. As I said in the last blog, I would monitor the Covid-19 situation and go from there. The only changes since then is that youth riders can now ride at a trial and so can sidecars. The silly change is that now you can camp overnight, which in my eyes would cause an even bigger danger, because anyone from anywhere could attend. From our local paper here in Reading, the town has 800 confirmed cases of Covid-19, and it has not gone away, which is why everything that was to happen on the 1st August has been put back.

Having spoken to John and Malcolm, it has been decided to cancel the August and September trials, we will review the situation again for October. This decision has been made for the benefit of everyone’s health.

Yours, Pete White

Update From The Committee

Hi all, if you have all been looking at the ACU website, you will have seen that clubs can open up for practice from the 8th July. But it is subject to a list of guidelines due to Covid-19, and some clubs have taken it on. We had a set of the guidelines sent to us to go through on the 10th June, and at the time of writing this (14th June) something has already changed.

Also, they have said we can start running trials from the 4th July, but it is going to be for over 16’s only, thus depriving the youth of a ride. To be able to run we have to apply for a permit via the ACU, and all entries have to be done online, as we cannot take cash on the day. So, we will not be able to do day memberships, which sometimes make our events pay. Today I have met up with John and Malcolm, who both read through the paperwork, and because of some of the conditions we have decided to hang on and see what happens in the next few weeks.

Due to the conditions of Covid-19, we cannot risk being locked down again. I have also spoken to a lot of other clubs in the area and they are not going to run any events yet either. I know it is frustrating for all of us, but we have to think about safety. So, let’s give it a few more weeks and see what pans out.

Yours, Pete White

Reports Of Riding At Headley

We have had complaints from local residents and the council that people have been using our Headley site as a practice ground during this Covid 19 pandemic, namely Easter weekend and today. There is to be NO RIDING at the site during this period, and we have been warned that we will be banned from using the site in future if this continues. Please do not ride here, the only permitted time will be at our first official trial after the lockdown is lifted. Thank you to all those who are obeying the rules.

Events Cancelled Until End Of May

We have cancelled all upcoming events to the end of May, and will review again when that time comes. We will keep you all updated with the current situation. Also, TMX magazine has been suspended from this week until further notice.

EVENTS CANCELLED - Covid 19

We regret to inform that the ACU has suspended all permits until the end of April. This is to ensure the safety of our members and observers. Therefore, all events until the end of April are cancelled.
